....wow....
In Patches in the Sky we saw, in remorseless, chilling detail, the grand view. In The Web, we're running desperately in ever-decreasing circles, trying to find a way to escape the universal fate, and ending trapped - with no way to see outside, and no way to know where we are.....
This is frightening. So is the loss of memory. So is not knowing what happened during that 'blackout'. And the sense of claustrophobia is very disturbing. But the episode feels decidedly unfinished - not exactly a cliffhanger, but there's certainly a sense that there's more happening here than we've been permitted to see.....
The greater uncertainty principle? Hmm...... Well, in relatively simple terms, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle states that it's impossible to know both the position and velocity of a subatomic particle. One or the other, but not both. To paraphrase John Gribbin, if a subatomic particle - say, an electron - knows where it is in space, it has no idea where its going: if it knows where its going, it doesn't have a clue where it is!! (does this sound familiar?) So I suppose the greater uncertainty principle must imply (more or less!!) that not one single subatomic particle (at the centre of the universe) has the faintest idea where it is or where it's going - or even it exists at all...... Therefore, by extension, all things must be possible (OK - it's not a convincing argument, but I'm a writer not a quantum physicist.....) So anything can happen!
And if anything can happen, there's at least some chance that the Lexx and its crew can escape from the Light Universe. Well, it beats hanging around waiting for Mantrid's drones to eat you.... I suppose.... Of course, there's no telling what they'd end up as once there....
Isn't it amazing how different people deal with crisis? Stan is as concerned about the loss of his hat as he is about Mantrid eating the universe! But whatever has got into him? He's not usually this forceful. Well, whatever happened, it was nice to see him take charge, at last. He can be dynamic when he tries (even if it's by goading others into action rather than leading them himself).
'Robot intuition'? Oh sure.....
Exactly what was Xev doing at the end of the episode? She could have been talking about finally bonking Stan - or about returning his hat.....

On a personal note, I was startled to see the Lexx trapped in a web. This echoes and balances my own fanfic - Bug - which was written long before I'd even heard of this episode. On second thoughts, though, I suppose it's not such a great coincidence. After all, what else would you use to trap a giant bug?
